The animated science fiction drama Futurama teased cryptocurrency mining in its latest episode, Cointelegraph reported. In the episode, released on Hulu on August 6, the protagonists are in debt to the robot gang and are forced to travel to "Cryptoland" - a place modeled after the Wild West to mine the materials needed to mine Bitcoin. According to the setting of "Futurama", even in 3023, the price of Bitcoin is still volatile, and people are looking for "cheap, dirty electricity" in order to continue mining. Ridiculous jokes in the episode include collecting the element thallium used in crypto-mining chips, moving to the Old West town of "Doge City," and Bitcoin miners "using so much electricity that they ionize the atmosphere." While the show mostly pokes fun at Bitcoin, it also touches on "fucking Ethereum" and mining with robot heads.
