According to Cointelegraph, a hacker group called CiberInteligenciaSV released part of the source code of El Salvador’s state-run Bitcoin wallet Chivo on the hacker crime forum BreachForums on April 23.

The hacker group wrote in the forum:

"What I brought this time is the source code in the El Salvador Bitcoin Chivo wallet ATM. Remember this is a government wallet. As you know, we do not sell it. We disclose everything to you for free."

This is the latest hack related to the Chivo wallet. According to previous reports, the personal data of 5.1 million Salvadoran citizens, nearly the entire adult population of the country, was exposed due to the Chivo wallet.

Before disclosing the source code, CiberInteligenciaSV also announced its plans to release the source code in advance on the Telegram channel. The organization wrote in the announcement on the Telegram channel:

“Tonight we’re releasing some source code and VPN access to the Chivo wallet for free, unless some of you nosy government folks want to talk.”

In September 2021, El Salvador became the first country in the world to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, with the government promoting Chivo as an official Bitcoin wallet for citizens. The platform allows users to buy and sell Bitcoin, as well as withdraw Bitcoin from ATMs.
