The Moonbirds NFT project led by Kevin Rose transformed its Moonbirds DAO into the "Lunar Society" and aims to become "the undisputed leader in the NFT PFP field." The DAO allows the exclusive Moonbirds community to vote to expand the brand beyond web3, grow its ecosystem, and build experiences or products that directly benefit holders.

What is Lunar Society Moonbirds DAO?

The Lunar Society aims to assist initiatives that align with its goals, as follows:

  • Expanding Moonbirds and Mythics brands within and beyond the NFT space

  • Offering a variety of high-quality experiences, adventures, and merchandise for those who own Moonbirds and Mythics.

According to Moonbirds’ official document, “ Lunar Society will play a key role in helping (the project) come to life by inspiring, highlighting and supporting our community members to build brands and explore creative opportunities.”

The Lunar Society is funded in four different ways. These include an initial cash injection of $2 million from the PROOF Treasury, seven Moonbirds, $500,000 worth of Moonbirds sold on the open market, and 35% secondary royalties.

Vote in Lunar Society

Moonbirds and Mythic holders have the exclusive right to participate in the Lunar Society voting process. For each NFT, Moonbird holders have three votes and Mythic holders have one vote. To clarify, even if all 20,000 Mythics are hatched, Moonbirds (and their holders) will still have the majority of the voting power.

To learn about new projects, holders can join a dedicated Discord channel and attend bi-weekly town halls, where builders can share their initial ideas to gain community feedback and support. Every two weeks, a new batch of proposals will be reviewed and voted on.

Voting will take place on proof.xyz for one week, and the results will be shared on the association website and Discord channel. To vote, holders will need to create a collector profile on proof.xyz. This allows them to easily vote without the ledger. The number of votes will be based on the holder's wallet holdings across all wallets on the backend.

Voting Request

The Lunar Society accepts three types of voting requests from its members: approval of keys, grant funding, and trademark use.

  • The Approval Key allows access to the Association's Builders Group, use of the Lunar Association Seal of Approval, and signposting support.

  • Grant funds may be used for projects consistent with the association’s mission, among other things.

  • Trademark use requests are for the "Moonbirds", "Mythics" or "Oddities" logos/names. Approval requests can be made without requesting funding or trademark use. In addition, all funded projects automatically receive an approval key.

Additionally, eligible voting items must include three criteria; items:

  • Improve Moonbirds' reputation and expand the ecosystem.

  • Help bring the Moonbirds and Mythics web3 brands more into the public eye and onto mass web2 and IRL systems.

  • Help create unique experiences that directly benefit holders and potential holders. These can also include physical, digital or physical items, and even IRL experiences.
