According to Reuters, EU Financial Services Commissioner Mairead McGuinness said that a draft law underpinning a digital euro should not be rushed in before European Parliament elections next June, but should instead be reviewed “quietly and slowly” by a new commission.
Previously, he said that whether to issue a digital euro would be decided by the European Central Bank (ECB). It is reported that the ECB will decide in October whether to implement the digital euro project to solve the shortage of payment service providers in Europe.
