On January 8 local time, President-elect Donald Trump and Senate Republicans held a closed-door meeting at the Capitol that lasted about 90 minutes. The meeting discussed Trump's cabinet nominees, the Panama Canal, oil drilling in Alaska, and more.

The meeting did not have a clear path to implement Trump's plans for tax cuts, promoting fossil fuel production, and deporting millions of undocumented immigrants.

This is Trump's first visit to the Capitol since his supporters stormed it on January 6, 2021.

After failing to win re-election in 2020, Trump claimed there was 'massive fraud' in the election. His large group of supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, resulting in 5 deaths, hundreds of injured police officers, and millions of dollars in property damage.
