Investing in the short term means one thing: don't chase highs, enter at the right position, which is itself speculation. For long-term investing, the key is not to miss out; actively buy into a position. If you are optimistic, buy a starter position first, and then add more when the price drops. For long-term, you should at least hold until you achieve significant results before exiting. Being stuck in a position means you have the courage to believe in it. The worst case is being overly optimistic and wanting to buy at the lowest point, which might lead to missing the opportunity altogether.
