As the year draws to a close, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson took to X to remind the ADA community of an important note. In his tweet, Hoskinson mentioned the governance workflow, CIP-1694, and Cardano’s constitution, addressing recent concerns about the pace of governance actions.

According to Hoskinson, the governance workflow was launched during the Age of Voltaire conference at the University of Edinburgh in late 2022, signaling the beginning of a focused effort to bring decentralized governance to the Cardano network. This effort resulted in CIP-1694, a Cardano Improvement Proposal that outlines the processes for decentralized governance, and a candidate constitution two years later.

Hoskinson addresses recent concerns

Hoskinson’s reminder appears to be a response to concerns from some members of the Cardano community who feel that the governance process, particularly the development of Cardano’s constitution, may have been rushed.

According to Cardano’s founder, the candidate constitution is the result of “two years of discussion, design, debate, and community engagement.”

By highlighting this, Hoskinson hopes to alleviate recent concerns and underscore the careful consideration that went into forming Cardano’s governance framework. This reassures the ADA community that the governance process has been thorough and inclusive, involving extensive discussions and input from multiple stakeholders over the past two years.

In the latest milestone, the governance action for the Cardano mainnet hard fork has been submitted on the blockchain. This action marks the end of the beginning for governance on the blockchain. If enacted, this action will enable full governance, as outlined in CIP-1694, on the mainnet, ending the technical initialization phase.
