The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a cautionary notice regarding a fraudulent website and internet banking login screen associated with Nanyang Commercial Bank (NCB). NCB issued a press release, highlighting the potential risks of these deceptive online platforms. The HKMA advises users to be vigilant and verify the authenticity of communications purporting to be from financial institutions.
Legitimate banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing users to perform transactions on their websites. Banks will also not request sensitive personal information through phone calls, emails, or SMS. Affected individuals who may have inadvertently provided personal information or conducted financial transactions via the fraudulent website should contact NCB and report the incident to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
The HKMA’s efforts aim to protect consumers against phishing scams and other fraudulent activities.
