According to Foresight News, LayerZero announced that it will open a vote on "whether to activate the LayerZero protocol fee" at 8:00 on December 20, and the vote will end at 8:00 on December 27.

This vote decides whether to charge a protocol fee for each message, which is used to buy back and burn ZRO, reducing its circulation. The proposal suggests that messages between Arbitrum and Optimism will be charged a $0.01 DVN/executor fee, plus a $0.01 protocol fee, for a total cost of $0.02.

The protocol fee is collected in the funding contract, which automatically repurchases and destroys ZRO. Voting requires at least 60% of the circulating supply (≥65,968,349.4 ZRO) to participate in order to be valid.
