The Aptos Foundation has presented a governance proposal that could expand blockchain capabilities. According to a July 1 proposal, the foundation is seeking input from the Aave community on bringing Aave Protocol v3 to the Aptos mainnet.

Aptos is a layer-1 blockchain specifically designed for scalability and user-friendly development of decentralized applications (DApps) and is not an EVM compatible blockchain. Aptos uses its own architecture and virtual machine based on the Move programming language developed by Facebook for the Libra (later Diem) blockchain.

On the other hand, Aave is a liquidity protocol where users can participate as depositors or borrowers. Aave is one of the most popular decentralized finance protocols, valued at more than $12 billion, according to DefiLlama.

Aave Labs has developed significant expertise in the Move programming language and community approval and further development steps are awaited. Aave Labs claimed that it had conducted extensive research on the Aptos ecosystem and that the protocol could offer "new and exciting use cases" not previously possible with EVM.

Aptos reached an all-time high in user transactions, surpassing Solana's transactions with 115.4 million transactions in one day. This increase was largely driven by the popularity of the "Tapos Cat" game.

The Aptos blockchain was created by former Facebook employees and has faced challenges. In October 2023, a five-hour network outage disrupted onchain transactions and forced crypto exchanges Upbit and OKX to alert users and temporarily halt deposits and withdrawals on its network.
