Mt.Gox users will be compensated based on the 2014 value of Bitcoin ($483 per BTC), not the current value or the number of Bitcoins lost. Refunds have started via PayPal, the process will continue until October 31,2024
Mt. Gox users will not be refunded the exact amount of Bitcoin (BTC) they lost during the hack. Instead, under Japanese bankruptcy law, the value of creditors' claims is capped at what they were worth back in 2014, which was approximately $483 per Bitcoin. This means that users will receive compensation based on the value of their holdings at the time of the hack, rather than the current value of Bitcoin or the exact number of Bitcoins they lost. The repayment process has been ongoing, with some users beginning to receive refunds via PayPal, although the process is not yet complete and the final deadline for repayments has been extended to October 31, 2024
