Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has highlighted the role of subcultures in growing the Ethereum ecosystem via layer-2 blockchains. In a recent blog post, Buterin identified groups such as the infrastructure-building "cypherpunks", the public goods-providing "regens", and the profit-seeking "degens" as key contributors to the diversity of the Ethereum landscape. However, he cautioned that attracting certain groups could deter others, and called for a balance through "cultural pluralism". Despite potential clashes between these subcultures, Buterin remains optimistic about Ethereum's ability to navigate these challenges.
