The Pi Network community is eagerly awaiting the launch of its Open Mainnet, which will mark its transition into a fully decentralized and user-driven cryptocurrency. As 2024 nears its end, many wonder if 2025 will finally bring this major milestone.
Progress has been slower than expected, particularly with migration. Since June 2024, only 400,000 new migrations have occurred, totaling 6.2 million, far below the 10 million goal. Despite this, the Pi Core Team is focused on a cautious and deliberate approach, prioritizing the testing of the mainnet node software.
Governance remains another challenge, as the community awaits the release of Chapter 3 of the whitepaper, which will address key issues like governance, token supply, and decentralization. Without these aspects, the Open Mainnet can't fully proceed.
Optimism remains, however, with hopes for a Pi Day (March 14, 2025) announcement. Many believe that by the end of 2024, the groundwork for this could be laid. While hurdles remain, 2025 may still hold the potential for the Pi Network's big launch into full decentralization.
