If you're not profitable, there's a good chance you're overtrading... Often find yourself hopping right into a trade after closing one? Always have the urge to take a position? You're not alone! Thousands of traders including the way I used to be can't get over if they don't have a position open. It feels like a missed opportunity doesn't it?

Here are some healthier ways to approach trading to help you overcome this! (If you HODL this shouldn't apply to you!)

1. If you don't trade you don't lose. Very simple right? If you don't have a trade open, you don't have risk! Does that mean we should never trade? For most of us, yes actually... But for those interested in doing this for real, absolutely not! But why rush into a trade if there isn't a reason to? Is that not only giving rise to the opportunity to lose money?

2. Set your goals (/limits). Before you begin trading for the day, what are your goals? What is your target for today? Be realistic with yourself. Maybe it's 5%, 2%, 30% doesn't matter as long as you think it's reasonable. Now how much are you willing to risk to reach your goal? How many trades do you want to allow yourself to take? Set limits for yourself such that in the long run you are not guided by your emotions, but by a soundly decided routine. This prevents you from overtrading, and teaches you discipline.

3. SIT ON YOUR HANDS! Literally, if you can't help it, sit on your hands. This is my favourite piece of advice because it consolidates points 1 and 2 in a whimsically concise manner. If nothing else you ever take away from reading my notes and self-reflections, remember this! Harden your mind and discipline yourself. Don't trade emotionally. If you have to reset, SIT on your hands till you're ready! Take a walk, close the charts, spend some time with people you love! If you're beyond your set limit, if you're in a poor emotional state, sit on your hands!
