Metamask offers 17 chains by default on which u can hold different type of coins, and from these 17 chains u all knew many names already which are famous one like :- eth,op,arb,polygon,ftm,bnb,base,avalanche.
These blockchain are added by Metamask through various audits, security checks and tvl(amount of money staked on chain), so they know which blockchain is legit or scammer, from everyone out there.
Although u can add chain manually but thats not recommended by Metamask until they do a security check and add it as default.
Now if u new and dont know which coin to invest just select any chain coin that is on Metamask and u are good to go.
