There are many traders who make big money using "basic" tools (price, moving averages, standard momentum indicators, etc.).

More complexity often means more noise, which complicates building a strategy that you can realistically implement in the market.

Excessive complexity also creates a tracking problem. It's much easier to reconcile 1-2 conflicting signals than 4-5 signals saying different things.

In most cases, we try to broadly capture similar market effects (trend, momentum, mean reversion, delta imbalance, etc.) - there are no extra goodies for getting the same answer through more complex work.

Start with simple things you know well and iterate slowly (if necessary).

Complexity and new variables should be added as needed and with the minimum effective dose.

A trader using a moving average with simple entry/exit criteria will find it easier to refine their system than a trader simultaneously looking at OI, funding, quarterly futures basis, CVD, liquidity heatmaps, etc., trying to synthesize a unified, coherent trading idea."

The perception of airdrops as "free money" is a misleading oversimplification.

A more accurate analogy is that participating in airdrop farming is akin to providing a sort of unsecured loan with an unknown interest rate, unknown risk profile, unknown counterparty, etc., in my view.

One must effectively provide value—be it your time, attention, assets—in exchange for *potential* future payout.

But there are significant uncertainties and costs that completely negate any notion of it being "free":

- The interest rate, i.e., the eventual value of the tokens, is unknown in advance: ultimately, the tokens may turn out to be worthless.

- The risk profile is unclear and multifaceted: you expose yourself to the risk that the project may fail, be hacked, or suddenly disappear.

- The counterparty to whom you are "lending" is an unknown company that you must blindly trust to fulfill its promises.

- Transaction fees are incurred in farming, directly reducing your potential profit.

- Time and effort spent researching and maintaining airdrops represent alternative costs, as these resources could be used elsewhere.

You assume all the risks and expenses associated with an unsecured loan, without a guarantee of adequate returns.

Calling it "free" is at best misleading, at worst, deceitful.

It's yet another speculative investment, not a risk-free windfall.

My opinion:

The story of the WIF memetoken, which soared to over $3 billion in market capitalization within a few months without any product, exactly mirrors the story of PEPE – it is NOT a phenomenon.

It's not some crazy force of free money from the people and community. Don't believe in fairy tales :)

Such things can only be orchestrated by the strongest market makers, who ALWAYS act in tandem with exchanges.

The goal of these stories is to divert attention and make a large number of people believe that they can get rich off memecoins.

While people are selling their fundamental altcoins and dumping them into every random project, big players are buying up the truly valuable coins from them.

Stories of some unknown person from Twitter turning $100 into millions easily hypnotize people and serve their purpose very well.

Yet, such distracting maneuvers happen every cycle. And every cycle has its own gimmick, on which "someone" gets insanely rich.

In reality, it's a screen, concealing altcoins from informed individuals, behind which there are products, funds, and a clear roadmap.

Someone might say, "But I made money on memes!"

Firstly, I'd ask, how much? And how consistently are you doing it? :)

And even if the answer is positive, for every successful memecoin millionaire, there are a thousand people who lost their money.

And for every "dog in a hat," there are a thousand more "cats" and "dogs" that got completely wiped out.

Don't forget about the "survivorship bias" and don't let yourself be thrown off course 🤝

The most challenging aspects of trading are:

1. Patiently waiting for the ideal situation.
2. Decisively executing a trade when the ideal situation arises.
3. Calmly accepting the outcomes.

I used to think we were in the stage of optimism, but now I'm starting to think we're actually closer to the stage of disbelief/hope. Why? A few brief thoughts on the market. The rapid mood swing suggests that people haven't bought into the bull market as much as a genuine macroeconomic phase of enthusiasm/euphoria would require. There are several reasons for this (I mean exclusively altcoins - not $BTC):

1. In terms of time, the cycle is in its infancy (compared to previous periods). Upward trends based on time are important for forming true belief/exposure, not just based on price (performance).

2. Most altcoins have hardly grown compared to what is expected from a full-fledged bull cycle (except for certain sectors, such as memes/AI, which have clearly exceeded all expectations). A broader altcoin rally is needed to strengthen this belief.

3. Retail trading hasn't returned. Maybe some participants from 2021 have returned to play with memes, but overall retail trading isn't chain-linked. They just want to throw some money on CEX and play with altcoins. There are plenty of metrics confirming this.

If we are indeed approaching the hope phase, the journey will still be full of dumps, dips, and FUDs designed to shake everyone up."
