🇷🇺💳 Russia is gearing up to test the waters of biometric payments on a grand scale! Sber, the country's largest bank, and NSPK, the operator of the Mir card payment system, are set to launch a unified facial payment network. This initiative aims to create a national biometric standard, allowing all Russian banks to join in and issue terminals for seamless payment processing. 🏦 Dmitry Malykh from Sber announced that the network is expected to launch in the second half of 2025. Currently, the facial payment process is cumbersome, with users limited to registering their biometric data through specific banking apps. But once the new system is live, customers will enjoy interoperability, enabling payments at any facial terminal after registering their data with any bank app! Sber plans to deploy this tech across 2 million terminals, potentially covering 50% of all banking terminals in Russia! 🚀 This rollout, backed by the Central Bank of Russia, could also open doors for innovative use cases, like age verification for restricted purchases and automated hotel check-ins.
