Today, January 29, 2025, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) of the US Federal Reserve will announce its interest rate decision. This will be followed by a press conference by Fed Chairman Jerome Powell The Fed is expected to keep interest rates at their current level of 4.50%.  However, markets will be watching Jerome Powell’s statements closely for clues about future monetary policy, especially in light of the new Trump administration and potential economic policies that could impact inflation and economic growth.  In addition, analysts are wary of potential tensions between President Trump and Jerome Powell over the Fed’s independence and the future direction of interest rate policy.  President Trump’s tariff proposals could also weigh on the economic outlook and affect the pace of monetary easing by the Fed. It is important to follow these events because the Fed's decisions and statements can have a significant impact on global financial markets and the world economy.
