However, RIOT acquired this notable BTC after raising $500 million through Convertible Senior Notes, as shared by Riot Platforms on X (formerly Twitter). The decision to purchase this significant amount of BTC was made on December 9, 2024. The firm joined Core Scientific and Marathon Digital, both of which purchased BTC by issuing Convertible Notes in August and November 2024. Additionally, these notable BTC acquisitions follow MicroStrategy (MSTR) and Marathon Digital’s recent billion-dollar Bitcoin purchases.
