After ending its relationship with EA Sports, the International Football Federation (FIFA) announced that it will launch its own games, which will be based on blockchain technology and with which it seeks to bet on Web 3.0.

FIFA introduced four Web 3.0 games: “AI League: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Edition”, “FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in the Upland Metaverse”, “FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 on Phygtl” and “Matchday Challenge: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Edition”. In the second title, Upland is a metaverse based on the blockchain.

Gaming and esports are some of the fastest growing opportunities for FIFA as it continues to expand into new spaces, platforms and digital games that are already welcoming football fans. The new game integrations, all designed with Web 3.0 and the future of digital engagement in mind.

The first title is developed by Altered State Machine and will launch with a 10-week prediction component and promises digital and physical prizes to those who correctly predict the real-life matches at Qatar 2022.

FIFA commits to Web 3.0

The third game is a collaboration between FIFA and the "fan engagement mobile app" Phygtl. Players will be able to capture their best moments and save their images and videos, as a "digital representation".

Meanwhile, Romy Gai, commercial director of FIFA, pointed out:

This is a very exciting set of partnerships that we have established as we embrace a new digital native football fan and engage with them in spaces where we know they are already active. As we continue to build our future gaming strategy, Web 3.0 is sure to have a significant role to play, and this marks the beginning of our journey.

FIFA has been working for months on its Web 3.0 strategy ahead of Qatar 2022. In October, it announced the launch of its virtual ecosystem "FIFA World" in the Roblox metaverse, with which it promises to attract new soccer fans through games, experiences immersive and exclusive rewards.

In the same month, the Argentine platform specializing in software, Globant, announced its alliance with FIFA, prior to the Qatar 2022 World Cup, in which it will join as a sponsor for the "FIFA+" platform, based on the Algorand blockchain (ALGO ), and will drive the growth of the platform.
