As BTC Nears $100,000, Hashrate Hits Record High On-chain data reveals the Bitcoin Hashrate has reached a record high as the coin's price hits fresh highs. Recent Increase in 7-Day Bitcoin Mining Hashrate The “Hashrate” measures the overall computational power of Bitcoin miners connected to the network. Hashes per second (H/s) or, more practical, terahashes per second (TH/s) quantify its worth. Solving mathematical riddles with their computers lets miners add the next block to the chain. However, the network's computational power never works together. Instead, miners compete using their Hashrate to answer these riddles first and get paid. However, the ‘total’ Hashrate is still helpful since it shows the overall state of these validators. When this statistic grows, miners contribute power to the network. This shows this organization is profiting from BTC mining. The indication moving down suggests some miners have left the network, maybe because they are no longer generating a profit. As seen in the graph above, the 7-day average Bitcoin Hashrate has risen rapidly, indicating that miners are growing. The metric established a new record of 755 TH/s at the outset of the month, but even though the cryptocurrency rallied to new highs in the subsequent weeks, the measure fell. Bitcoin miners get money from transaction fees and block subsidies, although the latter accounts for most of their income, therefore the former may be neglected when calculating profitability. The block subsidy is set in BTC value and distributed at a relatively constant pace, except for Halvings, which permanently cut it in half every four years. Thus, only BTC price movements may affect miner earnings. Chain validators invest more in their farms during bullish times because they make more money. So the pattern earlier this month was shocking. Anti-Crypto SEC Commissioner Resigns After Gensler, XRP Near $8 SEC Chairman Gary Gensler's comments yesterday boosted XRP dramatically. The newest update includes anti-crypto SEC Commissioner Jaime Lizárraga's resignation. On January 17, 2025, Democrat Lizárraga, who opposes crypto, will resign due to his wife's health. “In reflecting on the challenges that lie ahead, we have decided that it is in the best interests of our family to close this chapter in my 34-year public service journey,” Lizárraga told Bloomberg Law. Lizárraga agrees with Gensler that all crypto tokens are securities. He also stated that “problems in the digital asset market are worse than those in the traditional finance system, because they occur in a largely unregulated space.” Thus, his and Gensler's departure signifies a softer crypto industry stance. The announcement comes a day after SEC Chair Gary Gensler announced his departure on January 20, suggesting agency changes. Caroline Crenshaw is the only Democrat on the five-member SEC after both departures. Hester Peirce and Mark Uyeda, Republicans, require her cooperation to implement or change rules, hence crypto-related policies are unclear. These revelations shook the crypto market, especially XRP, which rose almost 33% in a day. The coin breached major resistance levels after Lizárraga's statement, indicating a trader and investor mood change. Pantoja said earlier this month that hitting $8 may push XRP to $30. A Republican-majority SEC may lessen crypto company enforcement, improving digital asset conditions. XRP prices may reflect market expectations of decreasing regulatory monitoring.
