At the Cyberwarcon conference, security researchers warned about the ongoing threat from North Korean hackers. These hackers are posing as job seekers at multinational companies in order to steal secrets and money for their country’s weapons programs. Over the past decade, they have earned billions through stolen cryptocurrency and bypassed international sanctions.
Microsoft security researcher James Elliott explained that North Korean IT workers have infiltrated hundreds of organizations worldwide by using false identities and intermediaries in the U.S. to avoid detection. Experts believe that the threat from North Korea’s cyber capabilities comes from various hacker groups with different tactics but a shared goal of stealing cryptocurrency.
The risk of North Korean hacking is low due to the country’s existing sanctions.
