With the open network approaching, we are excited to announce the second PiFest, an exciting new iteration of our community-driven event aimed at enhancing the utility of Pi and supporting local merchants. Building on the success of December's PiFest, this event will once again highlight the practical use of Pi in everyday transactions, with a powerful new dimension: the event will feature award-winning applications from the Pi Commerce Hackathon, Pi Map!

Merchant registration and preparation will begin on Thursday, October 24, 2024, with the Pioneer shopping period running from Tuesday, October 29 to Tuesday, November 5, 2024. All members of the Pi network community can participate by finding and visiting local Pi-Powered businesses, making purchases, and sharing their experiences on the Fireside Forum and social media.

About PiFest and Pi Map

PiFest is a community-driven event aimed at supporting and promoting the integration of Pi in local business, connecting merchants with Pioneer shoppers, and celebrating their local experiences on the Fireside Forum and social media.

The creation of PiFest is partly due to the strong interest shown by pioneers in using Pi within local businesses. This interest is reflected in the wide participation in the first PiFest in December 2023. However, a challenge often mentioned among pioneers is the lack of discoverability of businesses that accept Pi.

However, please remember that this is the first large-scale global Pi community event running on a community-built application, which has its own post-launch support. Pioneers should expect potential ongoing feature and user experience hiccups. How will this year's PiFest work?

Explore and discover

The Map of Pi allows Pioneer merchants (those accepting Pi or integrating Pi into their businesses) to list their businesses, products, and services and become pioneers in the local community.

Pioneers can use the Pi map to find nearby Pi-powered merchants through the map or search function and can add reviews to their shopping experiences. Please note that actual shopping and transactions occur in local stores, not within the Map of Pi application. The app focuses on helping Pioneers discover local Pi-powered businesses.

Access and transactions

Then, pioneers visit the local shops they find and use the Pi QR code feature in the Pi wallet, which helps facilitate their transactions on the Pi mainnet blockchain.

In summary, these elements aim to support the full cycle of Pi-driven commerce and create a blueprint for Pi integration at the intersection of Web3 and business.

PiFest aims to promote the use and integration of Pi in local business, leveraging innovative solutions co-developed by Pioneer developers during the Pi Commerce Hackathon. Utility building is a key goal during and after the closed mainnet period, and PiFest is central to gathering pioneers and merchants together to contribute to this effort while having fun.

Launch and share!

PiFest is an opportunity for the Pioneer community and the wider world to showcase and celebrate the local business potential of Pi.

Therefore, merchants and Pioneer shoppers are encouraged to share photos and stories on the Fireside Forum's #PiFest channel and on social media to share their PiFest experiences! Your Fireside Forum posts may even appear on Pi's social media if you participate in various merchant and pioneer challenges while creating posts, potentially reaching millions of followers.
