Science fiction predicts a future in which flying cars fill the skies. On Thursday, a law called the "Jetsons Act, named after the iconic cartoon series, will go into effect in Minnesota; two bills were signed into law in May to address "roadworthy flying vehicles.
According to a Newsweek report, Minnesota and New Hampshire are already ready for flying cars, while California has yet to approve the futuristic vehicles, despite a growing number of flying car developers. Among them are #Aleph Aeronautics in San Mateo and Aska in Silicon Valley. However, Jim Ducavni, president and CEO of Aleph Aeronautics, is optimistic that it's only a matter of time.
I think we're close to regulation at the federal level, Ducavni told Decrypt. Healthy market competition between states and countries is good for the industry. Governments are starting to realize the economic and environmental benefits of flying cars.
Minnesota law is based on New Hampshire's bill, House Bill 1182, approved in 2020, which gave private citizens the right to own a flying car. Minnesota law allows ownership of flying cars, but prohibits them from taking off and landing on public roads.
the company Aleph Aeronautics, which Ducavni founded in 2015, is developing a hybrid ground-air vehicle that can drive on roads, take off and land vertically. According to Dukavni, Aleph was inspired by movies like "Back to the Future, "Blade Runner" and "The Fifth Element.
Another sign of the proliferation of artificial intelligence and the potential origin of Skynet is that defense companies are looking to use #AI on the battlefields of the future.
One such company is Kratos Defense and Security Solutions, makers of the XQ-58A (also known as Valkyrie) unmanned combat aircraft. The Valkyrie is an experimental stealth fighter that took to the skies unmanned for the first time in 2019, and the last time an XQ-58A fighter successfully flew...
The company faced challenges in developing the Alef aircraft, including the weight and manufacturing costs required for safe takeoff and landing, Dukavna said.
