WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange became a free man after an agreement with the US Department of Justice.

Assange, who spent five years in prison in Britain and almost seven years in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, left the country on a private jet.

Assange was arrested in Britain for breaching bail conditions after seeking asylum at the Ecuadorian embassy in London to avoid extradition on various charges including his role in publishing secret documents.

The history of WikiLeaks and cryptocurrency are closely connected. In 2014, Assange said that Bitcoin and WikiLeaks helped preserve each other.

During his legal fight with the US and UK governments, Assange's supporters and WikiLeaks turned to the Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) to raise funds for his defense, raising more than 16,500 Ether - more than $55.2 million at current prices.
