The 7-day moving average of user transactions on Aptos jumped to 47 million at the end of May, showing strong growth where at the beginning of the month the moving average had never exceeded 1 million. Without averaging, the number of transactions reached 156 million.

For those who need a reminder, Aptos launched in October 2022 with a lot of expectations. It comes from Facebook's Libra blockchain initiative and has many large investors. Aptos is promoted as a new alternative to Solana for developers because it uses the Move programming language and is said to be much easier to build with.

Aptos is the 17th largest network by total key value and is a well-known name in the crypto space, although not always the most talked about.

Aptos seems to have a penchant for attracting major partners, working with Microsoft, Brevan Howard, Universal Pictures and Google Cloud on various initiatives and projects to improve the ecosystem and bring about wider adoption .

The recent surge does not appear to be related to mass adoption of the Aptos blockchain but instead to a new game called “Tapos.”

The number of user transactions increased from 3 million on May 23 to 47.18 million on May 26.

“Tapos” is a clicker game. Each click makes a transaction that increases the player's count. The game allows users to tickle cats with each click and earn HEART tokens (although they still have to pay gas fees for transactions, which are very low, around 0.000008 APT).

The amount of HEART earned is based on the number of cat tickles a player has performed over a period of time compared to the number of cat tickles by all players, so more clicks will translate into more tokens.

Given the structure of the game, it's not surprising that we're seeing such a spike in transactions. The 7-day moving average of active addresses on Aptos has also increased, from 61,000 at the beginning of May to more than 150,000 at the end of the month. This may partly be related to the game, which appears to have launched near the end of May.

On May 26, Tapos's X account posted that their campaign had ended and would update the game's next steps. In a few days, the project had more than 323 million transactions and more than 63,000 users. Of course, the end of “Tapos” means the end of high trading volumes, and we have now started to see the moving averages fall again.

Although short-lived, the success of “Tapos” underscores the areas in which Aptos excels. A game with such a large transaction demand will struggle on networks with higher fees, and the counting mechanism also takes advantage of some native Aptos features.
