🚨🚨🚨Japanese large cryptocurrency exchange DMM Bitcoin was stolen

👀👀👀Loss exceeded US$300 million, 4500 Bitcoins were stolen😭😭

More than $300 million worth of Bitcoin was stolen from Japan's centralized cryptocurrency exchange DMM Bitcoin. This is the largest hacker attack since December 2022 and the third largest cryptocurrency theft in Japanese history, second only to 2018 The Coincheck hack in 2014, when more than $530 million worth of XEM was stolen, and the Mentougou Mt. GOX incident in 2014.

DMM, established in 1999, is one of Japan's largest e-commerce websites, with more than 27 million e-commerce customers. Later announcing its entry into the cryptocurrency market, DMM Bitcoin is a virtual currency exchange operated by DMM Bitcoin Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of DMM Group. One of its main attractions is that it allows leveraged trading using multiple altcoins.

Whale Alert initially reported that 4,502 BTC were transferred from an unknown wallet to an unknown new wallet. DMM confirmed shortly after that the BTC was illegally leaked from their wallet.

DMM did not provide further details about the execution of the apparent hack, saying only that they are actively investigating the incident and implementing safeguards to prevent it from happening again in the future.

While ensuring that all BTC deposits remain secured, the exchange has temporarily halted spot trading buy orders, leveraged position openings, and new account screening.
