20 rescue teams and drones have been sent to the area where the helicopter went down. The couple was on board the helicopter along with a group of dignitaries, returning from the opening ceremony of a dam on the Iran-Azerbaijan border when it "crashed while landing in the Varzakan region on Sunday," IRNA English reported.

"Twenty rescue teams and drones have been dispatched to the area, but the search and rescue operation will take time due to the inaccessible, mountainous and forest conditions of the area, as well as unfavorable weather conditions, especially fog," IRNA said.

IRNA also reported, citing locals, that the helicopter crashed in the Dizmar forest area between the villages of Ozi and Pir Davood. It added that residents in the northern part of East Azerbaijan province of Varzeqan said they heard noises in the area.
