As the 2024 U.S. presidential election approaches, Donald Trump is preparing for his presidential campaign in a new way — by accepting cryptocurrency donations to fuel his path to the White House. The move came as a surprise to many, considering Trump had previously criticized emerging economies, especially Bitcoin (BTC), calling it a scam currency that competes with the U.S. dollar. However, the former president, who ruled the United States from 2017 to 2021, reversed his tune earlier this year and promised that his administration would not clamp down on Bitcoin and other digital assets if re-elected. Now, he fully supports the industry and is ready to welcome cryptocurrency donations to boost his White House campaign. Trump announced his plans to accept crypto assets as campaign contributions with a series of video clips shared on social media platform X. In one of the videos, Trump directly addressed supporters who attended the Trump Card NFT Gala event held at his Mar-a-Lago resort on May 8, expressing his support for the industry. In another video, Trump called for support for his victory in the upcoming election and criticized the Biden administration's stance on digital assets.
