AI Safety Council: First quarter meeting held in May
The committee will hold its first quarter meeting in early May and provide advice to ministers to ensure the safe adoption of AI technology in vital services.
AI is rapidly entering the mainstream in 2023, forcing global leaders to scramble to develop regulations to deal with the new technology. In January this year, the World Economic Forum (WEF) listed AI and quantum computing as one of the most pressing global risks.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said:
AI is a revolutionary technology that can advance national interests in unprecedented ways, but it also poses real risks that can be mitigated through the adoption of best practices and other specific, researched actions. I am grateful to these outstanding leaders who are dedicating their time, expertise to the committee to help ensure that the United States is effectively protected against risk and understands the tremendous potential of this technology.
