According to TechFlow, Cointelegraph reported that a request made by a Bloomberg reporter through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) showed that since 2022, SEC Chairman Gary Gensler has received multiple threatening emails and voice messages from the United States and internationally. These threats contained violent language but did not clearly explain the reasons.
One of the threats said he would "shoot and chop him up", while the other was warned he would face prosecution if he continued to send such messages. The documents suggest one of the death threats may have come from a government employee, while another threatening email with the subject line "die" came from Australia.
However, these threats are not explicitly linked to Gensler’s cryptocurrency regulatory policies.
