According to ChainCatcher, John Deaton, a lawyer who supports cryptocurrency, won the Republican Senate nomination in the Massachusetts primary and will compete with Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren in November.
According to the Associated Press on September 4, Deaton defeated two other Republican candidates. As of press time, Deaton has received 64% of the votes.
It is worth noting that Deaton's campaign has received support from many well-known figures in the crypto industry, including the Winklevoss brothers and Ripple executives. Crypto PAC Commonwealth Unity Fund invested more than $1 million in Massachusetts to support Deaton's campaign. Deaton's major donors include founders and executives of companies such as Ripple, Gemini, SkyBridge Capital, Cardano and Kraken.
According to Federal Election Commission records, Deaton's campaign had raised about $1.7 million as of July 31. Previously, Deaton had filed an amicus brief with the SEC on behalf of 4,701 Coinbase customers, supporting the company's lawsuit against the SEC.
