On August 30, 2024, the launch meeting of the IEEE P3233 "Standard for Blockchain-Based Decentralized Storage Protocol Specification" initiated by CESS was successfully held.

This meeting marks the official launch of the IEEE P3233 standard formulation, and also represents the official start of the decentralized storage technology standardization process. The launch meeting attracted experts, innovators and representatives from multiple organizations in the storage industry. As the chairman of the international standards working group for the protocol, Joseph Li, co-founder of CESS, discussed the standard formulation plan with the participating IEEE member representatives and looked forward to the far-reaching impact that the standard will have on the future development of decentralized storage technology.

The significance of IEEE P3233 standard

The IEEE P3233 standard aims to establish unified specifications for decentralized storage technology and promote the industry to achieve a higher level of standardization in terms of performance, security, privacy protection, etc. By formulating these standards, IEEE P3233 will not only help promote the widespread application of decentralized storage technology, but also set a new benchmark for data management and security in various industries in the future.

Meeting agenda and key discussions

The launch meeting mainly discussed the following key issues.

  • Meeting Overview and Agenda Approval: Joseph Li introduced the main agenda of this meeting, emphasizing the need to establish strong specifications and frameworks to ensure the integrity, security, and scalability of decentralized storage solutions. The meeting agenda was unanimously approved by the attendees, laying the foundation for a series of discussions and decisions, ensuring that the development process of the IEEE P3233 standard is open and transparent.

The meeting was attended by well-known companies and institutions in the industry, including voting members from State Grid, China Southern Power Grid, TreeGraph, China Civil Aviation Information Network, Inspur Information, FunChain, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, IoTeX and other institutions. All members agreed to the meeting agenda and actively participated in the discussion and voting. This collective consensus shows the industry's broad support and high recognition for promoting the formulation of the IEEE P3233 standard. We sincerely invite more IEEE members to join the IEEE P3233 International Standard Working Group to jointly promote the standardization process of the decentralized storage industry.

  • Establishment of the IEEE P3233 Distributed Storage International Standard Working Group: Chaired by Joseph Li and Secretary by Chunshu Dai of TellyWelly Ltd., the working group will be responsible for leading and overseeing the standards development process to ensure it meets industry needs and is forward-looking.

  • Background and Importance of the IEEE P3233 Standard: Working Group members delved into the background of the standard and its importance in the field of decentralized storage and Web3.

  • Introduction to IEEE Patent and Copyright Policy: Jiajia Liu from IEEE SA introduced IEEE's patent and copyright policy, reminding all participants to declare potential patents when necessary. This transparency is critical to maintaining the integrity and trust of the standardization process.

CESS's role and technical contributions

As a pioneer in the field of decentralized storage, Joseph Li demonstrated CESS's innovative technologies and applications as a decentralized data infrastructure at the conference, demonstrating CESS's determination and technical strength to continue to contribute to and work hard for industry standards. Joseph Li emphasized CESS's commitment to ensuring data privacy, security, and sovereignty. The innovation and application of CESS technology not only sets new standards for decentralized storage technology, but also provides strong support for future standard setting.

Looking to the future: The road to IEEE P3233 standard development

The launch of the IEEE P3233 standard is only the first step. There will be a series of meetings and discussions held within the working group in the future. In the next meeting, the working group will vote to elect a Vice Chairman and begin to make arrangements for the protocol framework and technical division of labor for the IEEE P3233 standard. The working group members will work together to further refine and improve the IEEE P3233 standard. As the standard is formulated, decentralized storage technology will usher in greater breakthroughs in performance, security, and scalability, laying a solid foundation for the development of Web3 and the broader blockchain ecosystem.

CESS will continue to play an important role in this process, driving the standardization of decentralized storage technology and ensuring it meets the highest standards of quality and reliability.

As the industry continues to develop, the formulation of the IEEE P3233 standard will provide a solid foundation for the future development of decentralized storage technology and contribute to building a more secure, privacy-protecting and user-centric Internet.
