📣 Recently, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin (everyone calls him V God) came out to clarify that he did not sell a large amount of Ethereum to enrich himself. V God said that if he sold ETH, it was to support various crypto projects and charities.
On August 30, blockchain detective Lookonchain discovered that Vitalik transferred 800 ETH (about $2 million) to a multi-signature wallet, and soon after, the 190 ETH in the wallet was exchanged for 477,000 USDC. And this was not the first time, on August 9, he also transferred 3,000 ETH to the same wallet.
On social media, some people questioned Vitalik's actions, but Vitalik responded that he did not sell ETH for profit. He said that he has not sold ETH since 2018, and all the ETH he sold was used to support projects he believes are valuable, including projects within the Ethereum ecosystem and broader philanthropy, as well as biomedical research and development.
Some community members also supported Vitalik’s explanation, believing that he did not need to sell ETH for personal gain. Moreover, Vitalik has always been an important contributor to the Ethereum community and the entire cryptocurrency field, and his actions and decisions are usually based on considerations for the development of the industry.
Speaking of the Ethereum in Vitalik’s hands, he said on Reddit three years ago that all his ETH came from the pre-mining period, about 700,000 ETH. Pre-mining is a bit like ICO, that is, founders and early investors will receive a certain percentage of token rewards.
According to blockchain intelligence firm Arkham, Vitalik now has about 240,000 ETH, worth about $588 million, which is about 423,000 ETH less than the tokens he initially received.
