According to information from Axios, Vice President Kamala Harris is considering Michigan State Senator Gary Peters for the position of vice presidential candidate in the 2024 White House race.

Sources said labor unions are actively campaigning for Peters, believing his presence in the campaign will strengthen Harris's position in battleground states. Peters is said to be very interested in the position and is seeking support from his Democratic colleagues.  

Gary Peters's tough stance on cryptocurrency

However, Peters' views on cryptocurrency could become a barrier. Stand With Crypto, a nonprofit political advocacy group, highlighted Peters' strong opposition to cryptocurrency. He is a co-sponsor of the Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2023, which aims to limit the use of cryptocurrencies in illegal activities. 

Despite his opposition to cryptocurrencies, Peters supports repealing SAB-121, a regulation that requires banks that hold digital assets on behalf of customers to record them as liabilities on their balance sheets. .

Additionally, the Digital Assets Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2023, co-sponsored by Peters, focuses on minimizing the risk of using cryptocurrencies to finance terrorism. 

Meanwhile, Vice President Harris's views on cryptocurrency remain unclear, even though the digital asset sector is becoming increasingly important in the national policy landscape.

Businessman Mark Cuban was optimistic about Harris's openness to business and innovation, contrary to some public views. In contrast, Riot Platforms CEO Jason Les doubts Harris will change the Biden administration's current cryptocurrency policy.
