Wong, known for his flamboyant personality and frequent legal troubles, was a central figure in promoting the JPEX cryptocurrency trading platform, which was implicated in Hong Kong's largest alleged financial fraud case involving HK$1.43 billion ($183 million).

Huang Zhengjie: Controversial figure wanted for JPEX fraud case

Wong's most publicized past incident was in 2018, when he allegedly scattered more than HK$6,000 in cash from a rooftop in Hong Kong, causing a commotion among passersby. Although he denied involvement, he was seen getting out of a Lamborghini before the incident, provocatively asking the crowd if they believed money would fall from the sky. The Lamborghini bore the logo of the cryptocurrency he promoted. He was arrested for disorderly conduct in a public place and was subsequently released on bail.

According to reports, Wong Chung-kit also had legal troubles in 2019, when he was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud. Wong Chung-kit publicly promoted a five-figure mining machine, claiming that it could mine the cryptocurrency Filecash coin (FCC), and guaranteed that buyers would recover their costs within three months. However, several buyers subsequently reported to the police, accusing Wong Chung-kit of false advertising for his promise of returns, involving at least HK$27.5 million. The police therefore arrested Wong Chung-kit and his assistant Mok Chun-ting on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud, and a buyer filed a lawsuit in court for compensation of HK$125,000. In a small debt claim case in December 2022, both Mok Chun-ting and Wong Chung-kit were listed as defendants.

JEPX cryptocurrency platform scam

In 2023, the cryptocurrency trading platform JEPX was exposed for suspected fraud because it did not apply for a license from the Securities and Futures Commission. The platform used various promotional methods to attract investors until users were unable to withdraw their assets. The incident was exposed. The police subsequently arrested 70 people and stated that as of February 8 this year, a total of 2,636 reports were received, involving an amount of approximately HK$1.61 billion. Huang, one of the Internet celebrities promoting JPEX, quickly deleted all related YouTube content, but was eventually wanted for the case.

It is understood that Huang Zhengjie worked as a swimming coach before joining the cryptocurrency circle. He changed his name in 2021 because he was involved in theft. The story of a swimming coach turning into a cryptocurrency KOL and eventually becoming a fraudster has attracted widespread attention from the society.
