Dutch court denies bail to Alexey Pertsev, co-founder of Tornado Cash
Pertsev requested bail so he could prepare for his appeal of the May verdict that found him guilty of money laundering.
A Dutch court on Friday denied bail to Alexey Pertsev, co-founder and developer behind Tornado Cash, according to DLNews.
Pertsev's lawyers had sought bail to allow the Russian to prepare for his appeal process, but the court said that "continuing his detention does not obstruct his ability to prepare his defense," Pertsev's lawyer Keith Cheng said, according to The report.
In May, a Dutch judge at the s-Hertogenbosch court found Pertsev guilty of money laundering and sentenced him to 64 months in prison.
The verdict caused shock in the community and left many outraged.
The case has been described as the most important legal case in the cryptocurrency space.
