Former U.S. President Trump was rallying at an outdoor venue in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday evening. Less than 10 minutes after he took the stage to deliver a speech, a loud noise, like gunshots, was heard at about 6:15. Secret service agents rushed to the stage and escorted Trump off the stage.

According to the latest news, a suspect has been restrained by Secret Service personnel. The Washington Post further quoted the county prosecutor as saying on social media that the suspected shooter was dead and that another spectator died.

At present, the suspect's identity and motives are still unclear. However, law enforcement officials said that the gunman was not a participant in the rally and is currently investigating as an attempted assassination of the former president.

A spokesman for the Secret Service said in a statement that initial indications were that the suspect was a white male. He was hiding on the roof of a factory 130 meters away from the rally site. He was armed with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and fired multiple shots at the stage from a height.

Footage from the scene showed Trump first covering his ears, then squatting down and bending behind the podium. Then, Secret Service personnel rushed to the stage to protect Trump.

When Trump stood up again, there was blood on his ears, cheeks and neck.

Trump aide Steven Cheung said Trump is fine and "is being examined at a local medical facility."

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Trump is currently safe. No further details were provided.
