Central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) have faced low demand around the world despite significant investment in infrastructure. Data shows that just 105,000 consumers and 1,500 merchants accepted the Bahamian Sand Dollar, representing just 0.19% of the total currency in circulation. Similar problems are observed in Asia. Digital rupee usage in India has fallen to a tenth of December 2023 levels. In China, government workers who are paid in the digital yuan immediately exchange it for cash. 😕
