🚨 New fraudulent scenario: attackers posing as Coinbase employees defrauded users out of millions of dollars in cryptocurrency.

- The victim was tricked into sharing his private key.

- The scammers contacted the victim by phone, posing as an employee of the Coinbase crypto exchange.

- They then sent an email that appeared to come from Coinbase security.

- To appear legitimate, they told the victim about her past transactions with Coinbase.

- The scammer stated that the victim's wallet is "directly connected to the blockchain", which leads to unauthorized transactions.

- The victim was redirected to a website controlled by the scammer.

- Even though the victim knew the website was “not secure,” she only entered part of her passphrase but did not submit it. However, $1.7 million was stolen from the victim's wallet.

- Fraudsters have used the Coinbase brand for their own purposes multiple times, and this is not limited to just spoofing employees.
