Crypto-friendly Evolve Bank and Trust faced a massive data breach. The bank admitted that it was aware of the incident in which 33 terabytes of user data were stolen. 😱

Although Evolve Bank said customer funds appeared untouched, it acknowledged that hackers may have managed to download sensitive customer information stored in the bank's database. 🏦💻

This cyberattack is linked to the notorious Russian ransomware group Lockbit. Bitfinex users' personal information is reportedly among the stolen data. 🕵️‍♂️

The data stolen from Evolve Bank is said to be associated with more than 155.5k accounts linked to different companies such as Bitfinex, Nomad, and Copper Banking. 📊

In an official update on Monday, Evolve revealed that some of its systems went down due to "unauthorized activity" at the end of May. This occurred when an employee unknowingly clicked on a malicious link. The bank stated that it stopped the attack "within a few days" and that no further unauthorized activity has been observed since May 31. 🛑

However, according to Fintech Business Weekly reporter Jason Mikula, Evolve delayed notifying affected fintech companies and end users until the breach became public last week. 😕
