According to Foresight News, Matter Labs has expressed gratitude for the advice and suggestions from Vitalik Buterin, NEAR founder Illia Polosukhin, and Hasu on how to ensure that key terms like 'ZK' remain freely available and protected from misuse. The company fully supports the community proposal to establish a non-proprietary legal entity whose sole purpose is to hold the trademarks of 'ZK' and similar key names. This task should be led by a trusted, impartial organization or community member.
The entity will provide free trademark licenses to everyone. It will invite influential community figures and impartial organizations to join as guarantors. Matter Labs has pledged not to submit any new trademark applications for ZK. If an application is rejected, Matter Labs will not appeal. The company will never enforce any existing or future ZK trademarks it owns, except for defensive purposes, i.e., to prevent others from suing them.
Matter Labs has also committed to financially supporting the creation of a community-led trademark holder (TM-holder) entity and will transfer all applied ZK trademarks to this entity.
