According to Cointelegraph, Aethir, a decentralized GPU cloud computing network, has announced a partnership with the Filecoin Foundation to tackle the issue of GPU scarcity. This collaboration aims to address the increasing demands in the artificial intelligence (AI) and Web3 sectors by offering GPU leasing services integrated with Filecoin’s decentralized storage network.

Mark Rydon, the chief strategy officer and co-founder at Aethir, highlighted that traditional systems are struggling to keep up with the computational and storage demands. He emphasized that Filecoin’s decentralized storage backbone complements Aethir's decentralized GPU cloud infrastructure by providing a secure and scalable way to manage vast amounts of data. This partnership is seen as timely to meet the evolving requirements of the industry.

The partnership was unveiled at the FIL Singapore event, where Rydon discussed the significance of computational support for decentralized infrastructure. Aethir’s network, which includes over 43,000 GPUs such as Nvidia H100s, aims to meet the growing need for computational power. Rydon noted that Aethir chose to integrate with Filecoin due to the necessity for decentralized infrastructure, especially in AI and Web3.

Decentralized GPU cloud computing faces several challenges, particularly the global shortage and inefficient use of GPUs. Rydon pointed out that another critical issue is ensuring that compute power and data storage remain balanced and decentralized to avoid central points of failure. To address these challenges, the partnership will focus on AI-driven data security, utilizing AI and node-focused data stored using Filecoin’s network. The collaboration will combine Aethir’s scalable GPU computing capabilities with Filecoin’s storage services to meet heavy computing and storage needs.

In June, Aethir launched its decentralized cloud compute network on the Ethereum mainnet, enabling idle GPU resources to be contributed to the GPU-as-a-service solutions network. Rydon explained that this establishment on the mainnet allowed high-quality enterprises to contribute their resources, thereby increasing access to the current supply of GPUs. Developers and enterprises can rent compute resources from Aethir’s network of providers to support the training of AI models or to render digital content at scale.
