Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev’s bail request has been recently denied by the court.
The court has also denied the defense lawyers’ request to provide Pertsev a computer access.
The lawyers and the community address the court’s move as unfair and unjust.
In a recent development, Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev’s bail request has been denied. The bail denial occurred amidst the defense lawyers’ attempt to submit an appeal for the money laundering charges.
In May 2024, Pertsev was convicted of $1.2 billion money laundering charges and sentenced to five years and four months in prison. The unexpected arrest and the subsequent prison sentence of Pertsev have stirred the ecosystem, with many prominent figures expressing their disagreement with the court’s decision.
For instance, Nym CEO Harry Halpin addressed the ruling as “radically unfair and unreasonable.” Meanwhile, Adam Cochran, Managing Partner at Cinneamhain Ventures, called it a “gross misapplication of the law and a bastardization of justice.”
The lawyers were expecting the court to grant Pertsev’s bail, hoping to prepare for his trial at home. So, they requested the court to provide Pertsev with access to a computer to assist them in preparing for the trial.
However, surprisingly, the court denied the trial and the request for computer access. The court claimed that the developer’s continued detention could not be a barrier to his trial preparation. Regarding the request for a computer, the court argued that such a move was against the safety protocol.
Pertsev’s lawyer, Judith de Boer, expressed her dissatisfaction with the court ruling, positing that a “pre-trial detention is unacceptable.” She cited,

In response to the court’s decision on Pertseve’s detention, an X account connected with JusticeDAO commented that it is a “gross miscarriage of justice.” While the account organizes donations for Pertsev’s defense, they pinpointed the unfair development in the case.
