WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange has returned debt-free to his native Australia after 8 bitcoins worth about $500,000 were sent to help raise funds to pay for his private jet.
According to Alistair Milne, CEO of Altana Digital Currency Fund, an anonymous donor sent 80717 bitcoins worth more than $494,000 to an address listed on the Free Julian Assange website.
This was in addition to £345,992 ($437,925) sent to a crowdfunding initiative set up by Julian's wife Stella. She and Julian needed $520,000 to pay the Australian government for a charter flight from Saipan to Australia.
On Tuesday, Assange pleaded guilty to one count of espionage in a Saipan court as part of a plea deal. He has since returned to Australia a free man.
