PANews reported on June 24 that according to Wall Street Journal, OpenAI Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati recently revealed that the company's new generation of artificial intelligence model GPT-5 is expected to be launched at the end of 2025 or early 2026, reaching doctoral-level intelligence in specific tasks, marking that artificial intelligence technology may usher in another major leap.
It is reported that GPT-5, internally codenamed "Gobi" and "Arrakis", is a multi-modal model with 52 trillion parameters. The parameters of the previous generation GPT-4 were approximately 2 trillion. This huge parameter size hints at its potentially powerful capabilities. Murati likened the progress from GPT-4 to GPT-5 to the leap from high school level to university level, indicating that the new model will have a significant increase in complexity and capabilities.
It is worth mentioning that this release time is quite different from early rumors. The market had predicted that GPT-5 might be released at the end of 2023 or the summer of 2024, but Murati’s latest statement postponed the time to the end of 2025 or early 2026. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman once emphasized that there is currently no fixed release schedule.
