[Metal Gear game developer Konami launches Avalanche NFT platform]
Japanese gaming giant Konami Digital Entertainment, the company behind popular franchises Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill and Castlevania, announced on Thursday that it will launch an NFT platform called Resella on the Avalanche blockchain.
The Resella platform is designed to make it easier for companies to integrate blockchain technology and issue NFTs, whether for games or other applications. Konami said Resella eliminates the need for users to open external cryptocurrency wallets or handle cryptocurrencies, provides a "user-friendly market experience" and allows domestic users to trade in Japanese yen. The plan will also accommodate global users. Powered by Avalanche technology, Resella does not charge users gas fees for technology transactions.
Konami said in a press release that Resella will foster an inclusive environment that enables businesses across all industries to harness the potential of blockchain innovation. Konami envisions Resella enabling a variety of digital experiences, such as using in-game NFTs as event tickets or unlocking exclusive content on different platforms. Resella will be built on an Avalanche subnet, a dedicated instance of the network that offers more customization and other potential benefits than the mainnet.
Many other large game publishers are also actively deploying in the blockchain industry. For example, Ubisoft, the company behind Assassin's Creed, will launch its first original game, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, on the Oasys blockchain, and has launched other projects and collaborated with multiple blockchains over the past few years. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy creator Square Enix launched the Ethereum-based narrative game Symbiogenesis in late 2023 and is pursuing other endeavors within the industry. Sega has also partnered to bring some of its well-known IP to Web3.
The launch of Resella symbolizes Konami’s significant progress in the blockchain industry and demonstrates its determination to integrate advanced technology into the entertainment industry. As blockchain technology continues to develop, we can expect more game companies to enter this industry and provide players with richer and more diverse digital experiences.
