Enabling the On-Chain Web: Massa Decentralized DNS is Coming!

The vision of a truly decentralized web has long been a dream of the blockchain community. But the truth is that most dApps today still rely on centralized servers to host core components, leaving them vulnerable to attacks and censorship. The on-chain web infrastructure of the Massa blockchain overcomes this challenge. And now, we're excited to announce the upcoming release of a critical piece of this puzzle: Massa Decentralized DNS.

What is Massa On-Chain Web?

Massa's web-on-chain hosts both the front-end and back-end of dApps directly on the blockchain, providing unparalleled security, reliability and censorship resistance. No more relying on central points of failure. Thanks to Massa's web-on-chain, dApps can be accessed seamlessly from any browser, via human-readable .massa domains, without any intermediaries.

Meet the Massa Name Service Smart Contract

At the heart of Massa Decentralized DNS is the Massa Name Service smart contract. This contract, tested on testnet, buildnet and mainnet, is now ready for use. This smart contract allows anyone to register a .massa domain and point it to their own dApp, hosted entirely on the Massa blockchain. Here is the contract code.

Domain names are strings of 2–100 characters containing lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens, along with the “.massa” suffix. (That is, “wen-moon.massa” is valid, but “x.massa” or “Big.massa” are not.) Registering a domain name costs 10k/10k for name lengths of 2/3/4/5/6+ characters respectively Requires a semi-refundable deposit of 1k/100/10/1 MAS. This prevents domain squatting while keeping costs accessible.
