According to Foresight News, ZachXBT monitored that an attacker stole the identity of Peter Lauten of a16z to commit fraud. The attacker noticed that the real Peter Lauten had changed his X (Twitter) username from "peter_lauten" to "lauten" at some point in time, and then the attacker claimed his old username. The problem is that the a16z website still links to his old username, and some posts from the a16z X account are marked with the old username. Therefore, it is difficult for victims to identify, and they are tricked by the imposter into installing a fake conference application called "Vortax" on their devices, which is actually malware. A user lost $245,000 due to downloading malware to his computer.
