Japanese crypto exchange DMM Bitcoin was hacked for 305 million USD
According to local media CoinPost, DMM Bitcoin, a Japanese cryptocurrency exchange, said it lost 48.2 billion Yen in Bitcoin (equivalent to 305 million USD in Bitcoin value at the time of writing) after a hacking attack.
In its blog announcement, DMM Bitcoin said 4,502.9 BTC were withdrawn from the exchange by the attacker. The exchange claims to have taken the necessary security measures to prevent hackers from continuing to "extract", and affirms that it will buy back all lost BTC to ensure safe assets for users.
It can be said that this is an attack targeting a cryptocurrency exchange with the third largest loss in value in Japan.
In January 2018, Japan-based cryptocurrency exchange Coincheck was hacked, losing 58 billion Yen worth of Xem tokens (equivalent to 530 million USD at that time). The company subsequently compensated its customers and was acquired by Japan's third-largest online brokerage platform Monex Group, leading to security measures tightening regulations by the Financial Services Agency. Up to now, the identity of the hacker who broke into the security system remains a mystery. #TINTUC $BTC
